Cycling

The X Bar Ranch not only offers outstanding opportunities for mountain biking on the ranch, there are plenty of reasons to bring along a road bike as well. Miles and miles of paved country (County, Farm and Ranch to Market) roads lead you through a varied and scenic countryside. And an added bonus, one the central Hill Country can’t offer, is that these roads are lightly traveled.

Along with interesting terrain, read here- not all flat, we’ve put together some fun routes for your cycling outings.

  • X Bar Ranch to Sonora Caverns – 21 miles each way. Since you’ve made the effort to ride over, why not take a tour of the caverns, you’ll be glad you did.
  • X Bar Ranch to Sonora to (almost Eldorado) and back to the ranch – 57 mile loop.
  • X Bar Ranch to Ft. McKavett – three routes available, each approximately 60 miles one way.
  • X Bar Ranch past Sonora Caverns to Juno down Hwy. 163 to Comstock (ride parallels the Devil’s River) to Seminole Canyon State Park – 90 miles one way.
  • X Bar Ranch past Sonora Caverns to Juno up Hwy. 163 to Ozona and back to the ranch – 105 mile loop
  • All distances are approximate and are calculated from/to the Live Oak Lodge.

Consider the X Bar Ranch as your base destination for area day rides. Or for those needing a break from the highway, pull over to stay a night or two and put in some much-needed time in the saddle.

Our exclusive Rent-the-Ranch option is ideal for cycling clubs (road and/or mountain bike) or just informal groups of friends.
